Glasswing Ventures Co-Leads $5M Investment in Ship Angel, the AI-Native Platform for Global Shipping
We are excited to share the news of our seed investment in Ship Angel – an AI-native platform revolutionizing freight workflows for enterprise supply chain teams. As trillions of dollars of goods are moved by ocean and air carriers annually, global shipping represents the lifeblood of the global economy and provides a massive foundation on which Ship Angel is building.
Many enterprises that actively manage their supply chains today, known as beneficial cargo owners (BCOs), rely on antiquated manual processes to manage their freight bookings. Determining which carrier and shipment route to book requires hours of dissecting disparate documents and outdated data. When you consider the tremendous scale and importance of global ocean and air freight markets, these inefficiencies amount to billions of dollars in wasted opportunities and costs every year. Ship Angel has built an AI-native platform to streamline and automate these processes, drastically reducing the inefficiencies plaguing supply chain teams.
The team’s deep industry knowledge and experience working with BCOs positions them to revolutionize the industry. Ship Angel’s co-founder and CEO, Graham Parker, has spent his entire career (20+ years) in global shipping – having founded, scaled, and exited a freight forwarding business before co-founding Kontainers, a SaaS platform for freight forwarders that exited to Descartes Systems Group in 2020. Co-founders Dan Healy (COO) and Ray Yang (Head of Product) are also successful repeat founders who bring further expertise in go-to-market and product building.
We are also excited to share that today, Ship Angel debuted two products that bring powerful new functionality to its platform: Contract Amendment Guard and Invoice Audit. Historically, the average shipping contract has been amended every two weeks, requiring hours of manual effort to maintain accurate and timely information. With shipping rates and route information constantly in flux, invoice discrepancies and errors are commonplace. Ship Angel’s AI-powered products streamline these operations and reduce the risk of error by serving as the central line of communication between carriers, freight forwarders, and shippers. The platform automatically identifies surcharge changes, free time changes, and transit time changes, tremendously improving efficiency, visibility, and cost savings for BCOs.
We are thrilled to welcome Ship Angel to the Glasswing family and co-lead this round alongside our friends at Newark Venture Partners, with participation from Beinville Capital, Socii Capital, and Plug and Play. It is an honor to support Graham, Dan, Ray, and the Ship Angel team in their mission to optimize supply chain performance, provide time and cost savings, and improve data accuracy for global shippers.
