Welcoming Ellen Rubin:
Glasswing’s Newest Operating Partner
As early-stage investors, Glasswing Ventures deeply understands that great teams are not built in a day. That is why we structure our team to mirror the end-to-end leadership functions of a successful company. Every Glasswing team member has previously been a builder or operator, collectively reflecting all functional roles of a frontier technology company. This structure allows us to serve as an extension of our portfolio’s founding teams, providing the technical, operational, and go-to-market expertise necessary to help our companies scale.
Glasswing’s Operating Partner program is a key component of our strategy. Operating Partners include go-to-market executives, technical experts, and successful entrepreneurs who commit to a defined tenure with the firm, providing hands-on support to our portfolio companies in areas such as product development, hiring, and sales. The role is designed to be term-limited, so Operating Partners can engage deeply for several years and then rotate out in order to refresh the program with new partners who bring additional skills and networks.
Today, we are excited to welcome Ellen Rubin, repeat founder, CEO, and post-acquisition executive, as an Operating Partner at Glasswing Ventures. Ellen will leverage her experience to provide hands-on support to the firm’s portfolio companies as they build the next generation of AI and frontier technology.
For over 25 years, Ellen has dedicated her career to the entrepreneurial journey. She has engaged in the full lifecycle of B2B startups, from creating the initial vision, finding design partners, building the go-to-market engine for enterprise customers, and raising multiple rounds of funding. She was the Vice President of Marketing for Netezza from the data warehousing company’s initial product development phase through its IPO in 2007. She then founded CloudSwitch, a pioneer in the emerging hybrid cloud computing space, and led the company through its acquisition by Verizon in 2011. Ellen next founded ClearSky Data, which she led through its acquisition by Amazon Web Services (AWS) in 2019. She then became General Manager of hybrid cloud storage services at AWS. Most recently, Ellen founded Causely, a developer of the IT industry’s first causal AI platform for DevOps, which enables faster, more resilient cloud application management.
“In my experiences as a founder, CEO, and active member of the Boston startup ecosystem, I’ve had the chance to see the Glasswing team in action. Glasswing combines its deep expertise in the most advanced areas of AI and frontier technology with a hands-on approach to supporting founders and their teams from early product development through growth and scale. I’m looking forward to being a part of Glasswing and working with our outstanding community of portfolio companies, advisors, and investors!”
We eagerly anticipate the transformative impact Ellen will have on the firm and our portfolio companies.
